water baptisms

Congratulations on your decision to get baptized in water! The step you are taking is hugely important in your walk with Jesus! When you get baptized in water you are doing a number of things:

  1. Following Jesus' example (Matthew 3:13-17)
  2. Obeying Jesus' command (Mark 16:16)
  3. Representing Jesus' death and resurrection, and simultaneously, the death of your old self and you being raised to new life in Christ. Romans 6:3-4 says "Don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ Jesus raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."
  4. Going public with your faith!

We could not be more excited to come alongside you as you take this massive step! Here are a few things to be aware of for Sunday's baptism:

  1. Bring clothes you can change into for baptism that you don't mind getting wet. We recommend a dark colored t shirt and dark colored shorts so that nothing is see through when it gets wet. You should also bring a towel and whatever toiletries (if any) that you would like to have on hand for afterwards - deodorant, hair product, etc.

2. We will baptize immediately following service. We will have a spot in the service where those being baptized can slip out and change clothes to prepare.

3. You will have the opportunity to share a brief testimony for those who desire! Don't be afraid to share what God has done in your life, but please try to keep it fairly brief for time's sake. You absolutely do not have to share a testimony either, this is just for those who want to do so!

4. Afterwards feel free to dry off but please wait to leave until everyone is done being baptized. We want to pray over everyone together and take everyone's picture before you go.

We will have a photographer for baptisms so you'll be able to get pictures of your experience next week. Far more important than that be prayed up and ready for God to move in your lives! If you have any questions feel free to reach out to Pastor Troy at troy@citychurchob.com. See you Sunday!
